Detailed description of Highland Oaks Golf Course (RTJGT)
Highland Oaks Golf Course -Highlands/Marshwood/Magnolia, is a Public, 27 hole golf course facility located in Dothan, Alabama.
Highlands, the core nine, is relatively open, with several lakes in play. The peninsula green at the par 3 sixth has an elusive, beckoning quality.
Marshwood has been made famous (or notorious) by its behemoth par 5 sixth, which stretches to 701 yards from the tips. The 422 yard par 4 ninth, a left to right dogleg, is arguably the best hole at the site and has a tilted green elevated above a swathe of wetlands.
The Magnolia nine is well named: specimen magnolia trees dot the higher ground, which is reached via a 1,000 foot long wooden bridge spanning a marsh filled with lichen-dappled trees. The feature hole is the ninth, a 451 yard par 4 that brings you back to the clubhouse and is guarded by a large pond.

Great course

Fairway grass was average for this time of year. Some of the greens had not been cut and slow to putt. Had a little back up the first day on the first nine, but it picked up on the back nine. We played all courses for three days.

Great facilities. Great layout. We played all 3 nine holes and were great. Did not play the short course so cannot rate that . These RTJ Trail courses are awesome. You cannot go wrong playing them. So far we have not found one that we thought was a bad or poor golf course.

Played 36 holes on a Sunday. Played the Highlands/Marshwood nines in the morning and the Magnolia/Highlands in the afternoon. All nines are great but I would rate them as follows: Highlands (1), Marshwood (2), and Magnolia (3). The Highlands nine has the prettiest holes with a very scenic lake guarding holes 3, 4, 6, and 7. Greens and fairways were in great shape. Staff was excellent.
